Escucha mi música

  • If you are here, it is because you want to know a little more about me. I will briefly tell you my story.
  • I was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, in 1961. I grew up surrounded by music and literature, and from a very young age, I felt curious about understanding the world around me.
  • I pursued a military-police career, but soon I realized that this path was not for me: discipline shaped me as a person, but it was not the place where I wanted to stay. It was then that I found in poetry a personal space, a way to look at myself and understand what I felt. That’s when I started writing more consistently, and over time, music naturally joined as another way to give form to those same ideas.
  • During those years, I also studied Philosophy, Education, and Languages and Literature at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello and the Universidad Central de Venezuela. Philosophy ended up being a constant companion: I read Plato, Nietzsche, Sartre, Heidegger, Gadamer, and Foucault, among others, and their ideas accompanied me through many nights of work. For me, poetry and philosophy do not go down separate paths; both seek to understand similar questions about time, love, and death, and that mix has ultimately defined my way of writing.
  • As an author, I have published several books. "Papyros del Desamor" gathers poems about loneliness, memory, and absence. "Historia de una Guerra Tranquila" is a philosophical poetry collection that uses the tension between reason and passion as a starting point. I have also written essays on literature and philosophy, some of which you can find on my blog, www.escritodememoria.blogspot.com.
  • Music has been just as important in my life. I have composed songs with introspective lyrics, sometimes in languages other than Spanish, when I felt that was the right way to say something. In the end, my songs are another way of writing the same poems.
  • I am not interested in fame or recognition; I am interested in what remains in those who read or listen to something I made. I am Gabriel Ganiarov: poet, philosopher, and composer, although I prefer to think of myself simply as someone who has spent their life trying to understand things a little better, and to share that with anyone who wants to read or listen.
